| This odd looking fish is called a black brotula (Stygnobrotula latebricola), or black widow fish. It lives a very secretive life deep inside dark crevices. Brotulas live in many different environment including at a depth of over 4 miles. Upon discovering this rare fish I noticed it swimming inside the mouth of the green moray in the back ground. The brotula lives symbiotically with eels, ridding them of unwanted parasites. The black brotula is one of the few fish in the Caribbean to bear live young. |
